Bond and the city
The bond and the city experience allows guests to follow in the footsteps of James Bond and Ian Fleming, we have carefully researched the local London haunts of both the fictional character and the creator of the worlds most famous spy novels. Being as James Bond’s character was based on many of Ian Fleming’s actual life events, we have managed to cleverly merge the two and come up with a journey to the bars, restaurants, barbers and tailors where either Ian Fleming regularly visited and came up with inspirations for the character or where James Bond has appeared in a specific JB film.
The day starts off with Breakfast at The Grove before guests are privately chauffeured into London’s Mayfair in a Bentley. Their first stop will be at Truefitt & Hill for a traditional wet shave, the oldest barber shop in the world, holder of the Royal Warrant and barber to royalty and stars the world over, following this they will step next door into the Duke hotel’s world famous martin bar, one of Ian Fleming’s favorite bars and believed to be where the well known Vodka Martini was invented and born into the novels. Here the master barman will attend to the guests and perform a martini master class explaining the history of Fleming, how the drink became so famous and each guest will participate in personally mixing the perfect cocktail… and of course sample the end product.
At the end of the class the chauffeur will then escort the guests to Savile Row to visit the tailors responsible for dressing both Ian Fleming and James Bond, one being Gieves & Hawkes, (the tailors who designed and made Daniel Craig’s tuxedo featured in Casino Royale). This will be followed by a short trip to Jermyn Street to visit Floris perfumery, perhaps to pick up a bottle of Floris No. 89 – This fragrance was favoured Ian Fleming and mentioned in a number of books including Diamonds Are Forever, Dr No and Moonraker - and finally to Church’s shoemakers, favoured by leading Bond actors over the years. Shoes from this store have featured in a number of 007 movies.
Once the guests have finished at the shops they will make their way to Scotts Restaurant for champagne and a three course meal. Ian Fleming was often seen at Scott's in the 50s and 60s (then located on Coventry Street).
At the end of their dining experience the Guests will be driven back to The Grove.
