RAF Northolt is a Royal Air Force station and it is about 6.2 miles north of London Heathrow Airport. It is a working Air Force Station, but also handles lots of private civilian flights, often for business trips.
It was opened in May of 1915 for the Royal Flying Corps and was an active base during World War Two. Soon after 1945, it became an important civilian airport, being served by Swissair, British European Airways, Aer Lingus and Scandinavian Airlines System.
In 1954, it reverted back to wholly military use, as the central are of Heathrow was opened, and all Airlines landed and took off from there. It has been used in the media, as a location in films and TV programmes, such as Goldfinger, Octopussy, Doctor Who and Red Dwarf.
